Hasselblad H3DII-39

Posted in Uncategorized on February 26th, 2009 by admin

So I found myself talking to the right people at the right time and I have a Hasselblad H3D heading my way just in time for my next shoot. I’ve used the H2D a few times and its an amazing camera so I’m super excited to be getting one of the H3D’s I read nothing but good things about it. The workflow is a tad different to what I’m use to so thinking I’ll pull it out once I have the money shot in the bag. But look out for some comparison shots soon. I’ll do some side by sides. The Canon kit definitely isn’t going away but it the Hasselblad opens up a market that we havent been able to tap without huge rental fees.

Barbara Hulanicki put together collection for Topshop

Posted in Uncategorized on February 16th, 2009 by admin

So just saw that Barbara Hulanicki the woman behind Biba is going to lauch a collection for Topshop in Spring. Biba had a cult like following in the 60s and 70s in England. So it’ll be really interesting to see what she puts together. Topshop are really making the brand very fashion forward. I remember growing up with Topshop in London and they’ve changed a tad, you’d never have thought they’d be the brand they are today back then.

New York Fashion Week : Donna Karan

So as everyone knows I have a sweet spot for the crazier designer being a photographer wearability isnt quite as important.  But for just making a woman look sexy no matter what her body type. You’d have a hard time finding anyone that does that better than Donna Karan.  Seems everyone agrees that she had a really strong collection today and I’d be one of them. Lots of great separates heavy emphasis on black of course. I particularly liked the jackets in this collection especially the one Anya Kazakova wore down the runway.

Everything as usually was amazingly wearable nothing would have been out of place in any major city on the planet. But everyone would notice you for all the right reasons, that’s what Donna Karan does so well. Anna Wintour,  Grace Coddington (from Vogue),  Alexis Bryan Morgan (Vantiy Fair), Patrick McCarthy (W),  so was  Milla Jovovich, Molly Sims, and Rachel Zoe.

Bad place for me

Everyone jokes about how they run to Costco for some and leave having just spent $800. Well this place is my Costco. Somehow ever time I come to LA I find myself on Fairfax and Coldgate staring at Samy’s.

Yet again I succumb to the power of the Apple marketing machine

Posted in General on February 12th, 2009 by Jon

Arrgh damn that Steve Jobs and its esthetically pleasing design company aka Apple Computer. I certainly didn’t plan to buy a new toy from Apple today but I went from accidently clicking on one of those iTunes emails that tell you about all that music just begging to be downloaded and put onto that amazing iPod. To browsing the new slicker Macbook Pro, 17“ unibody design marvel. Do I need it? No, will my clients and friends marvel at my latest toy of course. So $3500 later I’m waiting 4-5 weeks for my new laptop I don’t need. Nothing like reinforcing that buyers remorse with a 4-5 week delay in seeing that impulse buy land on your doorstep. I guess it’ll give me time to sell all those other Apple gadgets I’ve purchased under similar circumstances.

Phoenix followup

Posted in General on February 7th, 2009 by Jon

So the images from Phoenix look great, sent out everyone proofs. Get an email from B Love, the owner of the location we shot at, and she wants to use a couple of the images in a piece of art. I’ve heard of TFP/CD before but never Trade for Art. So of course I cant wait to see what she does with it. I’ll post an image once she’s down.

Creative Spotlight : Agyness Deyn (Fashion Model)

Posted in Fashion on February 2nd, 2009 by Jon

image145677054.jpgSo this month I wanted to shine my spotlight on Agyness Deyn a 25 year old British model she got her break when she was signed by Models 1 in London, and has since been on the cover of US, British, Italian and even Korean Vogue and worked with a huge list of designers Anna Sui, Blugirl by Blumarine, Burberry, Cacharel, Gianfranco Ferré, Moussy, Maison Gilfy, Shiseido, Giorgio Armani, Mulberry, Paul Smith, Reebok and Vivienne Westwood. The face of Burburry’s “The Beat” fragrance. She been often referenced as the next version of one of my other favourite models Kate Moss. Could be the because she’s British, the love of musicians who knows but shes an amazing model in her own right.

Here is a profile vogue did on her, let me know your opinions.
